Wimbledon 2012. Anyone for Tennis?

Wimbledon (June 25th – July 8th) is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and is generally considered to be the most prestigious. It has been held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London SW19 since 1877. It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments and the only one still played on the game’s original and most challenging surface, grass, which gave the game of “lawn tennis” its name.

The City of London Sinfonia in partnership with the Scott Polar Research Institute, Univeristy of Cambridge, are embarking on this landmark concert in early 2012, to celebrate the centenary of Captain Robert Scott’s expedition to the Antarctic.

The concert tells the story of the expedition through music from the film score to ‘Scott of the Antarctic’ and Vaughan Williams’ ‘Sinfonia Antartica’, with its eerie wordless female chorus and elaborate percussion section. It features projected original photographs from the expedition itself, as well as readings from Scott’s own diary and letters written during the expedition.
